Objective

The study was conducted to examine the effect of MDCP from different manufacturers and DCP on growth performance and nutrient utilization of broiler chickens.

Materials and Methods

Animals and Design

A total of 288 1-day-old AA broiler chickens were randomly assigned to 4 groups with 12 replicates of 6 each (Table 1).

Housing and Management

The trial was conducted in Taiwan NPUST coop farm. Artificial lighting was used to provide chicks with 24 hours lighting daily during the whole experimental period. The relative humidity was maintained the at 55-65%. Initial brooding temperature was 33 ℃ in the first week of age and reduced gradually to room temperature after two weeks. Diets and water were provided ad libitum all over the experimental period, which lasted for 42 days of age.

Data to be collected

Feed intake, weight gain and feed conversion for each cage of birds were calculated weekly. Four for every experimental group were chosen to examine the digestibility coefficients of nutrients of the experimental diets at the end of the experimental period (7 weeks of age).

Statistical analysis

Data were analyzed with analysis of variance (ANOVA) procedure of statistical analysis system (SAS/SPSS version 10.0 for Windows). When significant difference (P<0.05) were detected the multiple range test was used to separate the mean value.

Results

Comparied with the group of DCP, MDCP groups had a tendency of improving the average daily gains (ADG) and the feed/gain (F/G). The average feed intake (ADFI) of the MDCP (Chinese) group was significant higher than the DCP group. The average daily gain, the F/G and ADFI all were no significant differences among three MDCP groups. The utilization of Ca, P and CP from MDCP (Chinese) group were higher than others. DCP group for iron and copper metabolism were higher than other groups, and the utilization of copper and zinc of MDCP (Chinese) group were higher than other MDCP groups.

Conclusion

Compared with DCP, MDCP can improve the growth performance of chickens, and the MDCP produced by Chinese had the same effect on growth performance of chickens with other products produced by American.
